Ideal Candidates for Rhinoplasty in Long Island

Women, men, and adolescents are candidates for cosmetic nose surgery. If you are unhappy with the size and shape of your nose, it may require surgery, although some people can achieve results with nonsurgical rhinoplasty. How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. At North Shore Cosmetic Surgery, we perform rhinoplasty with either an open or closed technique. The objective during treatment is to reduce or reshape the cartilage and to reduce and reposition bone if needed. In some cases, we build up the cartilage to create a more attractive look to a flatter bridge. The nose structure is reshaped, repositioned, and the skin redraped over the corrected framework.

What is the Recovery After a Nose Job?

Following rhinoplasty, you will first rest in our private recovery area, carefully monitored until you are given clearance to be driven home. Your nose and upper face will be bruised and swollen for a few days. In almost all patients, there is bruising and discoloration beneath the eyes. Ice packs and pain medication can assist with these effects.

Your follow-up appointment will typically occur within 48 to 72 hours after surgery to ensure your recovery is proceeding as it should. It generally takes about two weeks to recover from nose surgery. When in the recovery phase, strenuous activity must be avoided. Swelling may last several months or longer.
