What is BOTOX?

What happens during my BOTOX session?

BOTOX injections are performed as an outpatient procedure in our Med Spa at North Shore Cosmetic Surgery. We usually perform the treatment on the same day as your initial consultation. You will be asked to make a few expressions involving your upper face, such as frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., to help us determine where the injections will be best placed.

To begin, we will cleanse and prepare your face, after which we will start the injections. BOTOX is injected through a fine needle, followed by cold compresses to help reduce bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You can ask for a numbing cream or ice pack to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it usually is not necessary. BOTOX injections typically take around 10 to 15 minutes, and you may return to your usual activities with no required recovery period.

It is an excellent non-invasive approach for clients who suffer from forehead wrinkles or noticeable furrows between the brows. It is also a solution for lines that form around the eyes. If you experience more severe lines, an injectable dermal filler may be recommended in combination with BOTOX.

What can I expect after BOTOX?

Once your Long Island BOTOX treatment is complete, you can get back to your usual activities with no downtime, though strenuous exercise must be avoided for a minimum of 24 hours. For best results, you should sleep upright for at least the first night, and avoid touching your face.

The injected sections of your face may be slightly bruised and swollen for a few days, but these effects rapidly fade. Severe or long-lasting side effects are extremely rare. Your results will appear within five to seven days after your treatment, with your face appearing noticeably smoother as the injections take effect. Your results will last three to four months, after which you can come in for a touch-up treatment to maintain your new look.
