What Is SkinTyte®?

Infrared light that heats collagen deep in the skin to improve firmness and elasticity.

SkinTyte® is a non-surgical skin firming treatment performed on the same Sciton® platform as our BBL® HEROic™ treatments — but it works on a completely different principle.

Where BroadBand Light targets color, SkinTyte® uses infrared energy that passes deeper into the skin and heats the collagen layer beneath the surface. That heat does two things. Existing collagen fibers contract, which produces an immediate sense of tightness. More importantly, the body reads the heat as a signal to repair, and begins laying down new collagen over the following months.

During treatment your provider makes several passes over the area, building heat gradually while a chilled sapphire tip keeps the skin surface cool and comfortable.

SkinTyte® is not a substitute for a facelift, a neck lift or a tummy tuck. It is the option for patients with mild to moderate looseness who want real improvement without surgery, incisions or time off.

What to Expect During a SkinTyte® Treatment

SkinTyte® is performed at our Melville office by one of our physician assistants.

After cleansing and eye protection, your provider applies gel and moves the handpiece continuously over the treatment area. Sciton®'s protocol calls for several passes over the same region, each one adding heat while the chilled sapphire tip protects the surface. The warmth builds gradually and then plateaus — most patients find the sensation relaxing rather than painful, and numbing is rarely used.

A typical session runs 15 to 30 minutes, longer if you are treating a large area like the full abdomen.

You may feel a sensation of tightness right away. That immediate effect comes from existing collagen contracting; the more meaningful change comes later, as new collagen forms.

What Is Recovery Like After SkinTyte®?

Recovery is minimal. Expect mild redness and possibly slight swelling, similar to a light sunburn, typically resolving within minutes to an hour. Most patients apply makeup and return to work, the gym or social plans immediately.

The results themselves take patience. Skin tightening is a biological process, not a mechanical one — your body has to build the new collagen. Most patients notice gradual firming over three to four months following their series, with the skin looking and feeling more resilient rather than suddenly different.

Because the effect is cumulative, SkinTyte® is designed as a series. Sessions are typically spaced roughly four to eight weeks apart, and your provider will recommend a specific number and interval at your consultation based on the area treated and your skin.

Sciton® reports improvement lasting from three to twelve months or longer. Aging continues, so most patients plan periodic maintenance sessions to hold their result.

Who Is a Good Candidate for SkinTyte®?

SkinTyte® is best suited to patients with mild to moderate skin laxity who are not ready for — or not interested in — surgery.

Common concerns we treat include softening definition along the jawline, crepey texture on the neck, loose skin on the abdomen after pregnancy or weight loss, laxity on the upper arms, and the crinkled skin above the knees. Because the treatment is comfortable enough to cover large areas, body treatment is genuinely practical.

It is safe across skin types, which is not true of every tightening or resurfacing technology.

The honest limitation is degree. SkinTyte® tightens skin; it does not remove it. If you have significant excess skin or descended tissue, no non-surgical device will produce the result you are picturing, and Dr. Romanelli, Dr. Layliev or Dr. Walsh may recommend a neck lift, facelift, arm lift or abdominoplasty instead. We would rather tell you that at the consultation than after a series of treatments.

Does SkinTyte® actually work?

It produces real but gradual improvement in firmness and elasticity for patients with mild to moderate laxity. It works by heating collagen so the body builds more of it, which means change appears over months rather than immediately, and typically requires a series. It will not replicate a surgical lift.

Is SkinTyte® painful?

This is where it stands apart. Most patients describe it as a warm stone massage. The handpiece keeps moving, the sapphire tip cools the skin surface, and numbing cream is rarely needed.

How is SkinTyte® different from Ultherapy®?

Both stimulate collagen, but they deliver energy differently — SkinTyte® uses infrared light, Ultherapy® uses focused ultrasound. In practice, patients generally report SkinTyte® as considerably more comfortable, which is what makes treating large body areas feasible. Ultherapy® is a single-session protocol; SkinTyte® is designed as a series. Your provider can walk through which suits your anatomy and goals.

How many treatments will I need?

SkinTyte® is performed as a series of six treatments to start, with sessions spaced roughly four to eight weeks apart depending on the area and your skin. Your provider will recommend a specific plan at your consultation.

Is this the same as a facelift?

No. A facelift repositions tissue and removes excess skin surgically. SkinTyte® tightens the skin you have. It is intended for mild to moderate laxity; significant sagging is a surgical problem.

How long do the results last?

Sciton® reports improvement lasting three to twelve months or longer. The collagen you build is yours, but aging continues, so most patients schedule maintenance sessions periodically.

Can I combine SkinTyte® with other treatments?

Yes. Pairing SkinTyte® with Forever Young BBL® or Forever Body BBL® is common, since one addresses firmness and the other addresses color.
