If you have spent any time on our site looking at laser and light options, you have probably run into more names than answers. Figuring out how to choose a laser treatment is the most reasonable response to that, and it is a question we hear constantly at consultations. Feeling unsure is not a sign that you have not researched enough. It is a sign that ten treatments is a lot to sort through on your own.

The good news is that most people can narrow the field in about two minutes, using one of two shortcuts.

Start With What Is Actually Bothering You

The fastest route is to name the concern and follow it to the treatment built for it.

If your concern is color, you are almost certainly looking at the BBL® HEROic™ family. If it is texture or scarring, you are looking at resurfacing. One exception worth knowing: for milder or shallower acne scarring, HALO® TRIBRID™ is also an option, since it treats surface texture and deeper collagen in one session.

Or Start With How Much Time You Can Give It

For plenty of patients, the calendar decides before the concern does. That is a perfectly legitimate way to choose.

No downtime at all. Forever Young BBL®, Forever Body BBL®, Forever Clear BBL®, and SkinTyte® all let you return to normal activity the same day.

Two to five days. MOXI® and NanoLaserPeel® both land here. NanoLaserPeel® is the lightest of our resurfacing options, often called the weekend peel.

Five to ten days. MicroLaserPeel®, ProFractional®, and HALO® TRIBRID™ fall in this range, though the exact length depends on the depth your provider chooses.

Two weeks and often longer. Contour TRL™ is our deepest option and asks for the most recovery in exchange for the most dramatic single-session result.

HALO or MOXI?

This is the comparison we get asked about most, and the answer is less about which is better than about what stage you are in.

MOXI® is our gentlest laser. It is nonablative, asks for three to five days of downtime, and is designed to be repeated regularly, which makes it a prevention and maintenance treatment more than a corrective one. It is also the one we favor for melasma.

HALO® TRIBRID™ goes deeper, addressing texture, tone, and collagen support together in one more intensive session. If you want visible correction rather than gradual upkeep, and you can absorb seven to ten days of recovery, HALO is the one that gets you there.

BBL or HALO?

The deciding factor here is whether your concern is color or something more.

If sun spots, redness, and uneven tone are the whole picture, BBL® HEROic™ is usually the better and gentler starting point, since broadband light targets pigment and vessels directly without resurfacing anything.

If texture and firmness matter as much as color does, HALO addresses more of the picture in a single visit. We also pair the two in the same appointment fairly often when pigment is heavy enough to warrant treating both ways.

Melasma or Sun Spots?

These look similar and behave very differently. Sun spots respond well to BBL® HEROic™. Melasma is more easily aggravated by heat, so we typically recommend MOXI® instead, since its lower and more controlled energy is less likely to trigger a flare. This distinction matters more than almost any other on this page, and it is worth raising specifically at your consultation.

You Do Not Have to Pick Just One

Most of our treatment plans combine two or more of these. Pairing BBL® HEROic™ with MOXI® in the same visit is common, as is ProFractional® with BBL® HEROic™, or SkinTyte® alongside Forever Body BBL®.

Nothing here is meant to be a self-diagnosis. These shortcuts get you close enough to have a productive conversation, so you arrive with a sense of the territory rather than a blank page. Your provider still needs to look at your skin.

See Everything Side by Side

If you would rather compare all ten treatments at once, our Which Laser Is Right for Me? page lays out downtime, session length, and typical series counts in a single table, along with answers to the questions patients ask most.

For the deeper end specifically, our posts on deep laser resurfacing and the lighter laser peels go through the four resurfacing depths in more detail.
