What Is MOXI®?
A gentle, fractionated laser designed for prevention as much as correction.
MOXI® is Sciton®'s newest fractionated laser, and it is built around a different question than most lasers answer. Instead of asking how do we fix visible damage, it asks how do we stop early damage before it becomes visible damage. That idea has a name in the industry — prejuvenation — and MOXI® is the treatment most associated with it.
The laser is non-ablative, meaning it works without breaking the surface of the skin. It creates a grid of microscopic treatment zones across the treated area, and your body responds to those zones by clearing out damaged cells and replacing them with fresh ones. The process is gentle enough to perform in a lunch break and gentle enough to repeat regularly, which is the entire point: MOXI® is designed to be part of an ongoing rhythm, not a one-time fix.
It is also one of the few lasers on our menu that works year-round, on tanned skin, and across the full range of skin tones — which is why it is often the first laser we recommend to someone starting a skin health routine for the first time.

What to Expect During a MOXI® Treatment
MOXI® is performed at our Melville office by one of our physician assistants.
A topical numbing cream is applied 30 minutes before treatment, and some providers use cold air during the session itself to add an extra layer of comfort. Once you're numb, your provider glides the MOXI® handpiece across the treatment area. Sciton® cites 10-15 minutes of actual treatment time for a full face. Most patients describe a mild warming sensation as the laser passes — a sign it's creating the microscopic treatment zones that drive the result.
Including numbing time, plan on 45 minutes to an hour in the office.
What Is Recovery Like After MOXI®?
Recovery follows a predictable, short pattern.
Day 1: skin looks pink to red, similar to a mild sunburn. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after treatment.
Days 2 to 3: tiny dots called MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) appear where the laser was applied. They darken and feel slightly rough — this is expected and is part of how the treatment works.
Days 3 to 5: the MENDs slough off naturally as you cleanse, revealing fresh skin underneath. Do not exfoliate them off yourself.
Throughout recovery, stick to a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer, and wear a physical (mineral) sunscreen daily. Sciton® cites noticeable results within 5 to 7 days.

Who Is a Good Candidate for MOXI®?
MOXI® is often the right starting point for patients who are beginning a laser skincare routine for the first time, particularly those in their late 20s to 40s who want to stay ahead of sun damage rather than correct years of it later.
It is also a strong option for patients managing melasma, since its low, controlled energy is less likely to provoke a flare than more aggressive heat-based treatments. And because it can be performed safely through the summer, it fits patients who don't want to put their skincare on hold for the months when other lasers are off the table.

If you have significant sun damage, prominent redness, or deep textural concerns, MOXI® alone may feel too gentle — BBL® HEROic™ or HALO® TRIBRID™ may be a better starting point, and your provider can help you decide at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many MOXI® treatments will I need?
Most patients receive 3 to 4 corrective treatments spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, then move to periodic maintenance sessions. The physician assistant will tailor this to your goals.
Is MOXI® painful?
Most patients find it very tolerable. Topical numbing cream and, in some cases, cold air during treatment keep it comfortable.
Can I really get MOXI® in the summer?
Yes — this is one of MOXI®'s defining advantages. Because it is non-ablative and does not depend on untanned skin, it can be performed year-round, including on tanned skin, as long as sunscreen is used faithfully afterward.
Does MOXI® help with melasma?
Many providers favor MOXI® for melasma-prone skin because its energy is lower and more controlled than more aggressive heat-based lasers, which can trigger flares. Melasma is notoriously stubborn and individual response varies, so your provider will set expectations specific to your skin at your consultation.
How is MOXI® different from Clear + Brilliant®?
Both are considered gentle 'starter' lasers, but MOXI® is a newer technology built on Sciton®'s mJOULE™ platform, with higher power and more adjustable settings — which can mean fewer sessions to reach a given goal.
Can darker skin tones have MOXI®?
Yes. Sciton® states MOXI® is appropriate for all skin types, and it's often the laser we recommend first for patients with deeper skin tones that are more sensitive to heat-based devices.
Can MOXI® be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It's frequently paired with BBL® HEROic™ in the same visit for a more complete result.
